London Mayor Rejects Airport Expansion Bid
Boris Johnson has turned down a £220m proposal to expand London City Airport.
It is understood that more than 1,000 people objected to the proposed expansion, which led the London Mayor to instruct Newham Council to reject the bid on noise grounds.
The proposal, which included new taxiways for longer aircrafts and more parking, had previously been approved by the council, however it needed the mayor's approval.
Mr Johnson said the expansion would result in an "unacceptable increase in noise for East Londoners", and he was unwilling to expose East London to an increase in noise having previously argued that it would be unacceptable for West London if Heathrow Airport were expanded.
