Pupils To Watch Eclipse On TV

Pupils at a Devon primary school are to watch Friday morning's solar eclipse on television or online, over fears that unsupervised children could look directly at the sun and damage their eyesight.

Oldway Primary School in Paignton, Devon, has taken the decision that none of its 700 pupils will watch the solar eclipse outside as they "could not guarantee that they would not look at the sun".

Head teacher Jane Smythe said that "it is fine" if parents wanted to keep their children at home to watch the rare event then bring them to school after but any pupil in school would only be able to watch via live television or online broadcast.
