Drug-Addicted Mum Jailed For Manslaughter Of Two-Year-Old Son
A mother with a drug addiction, who gave her two-year-old son methadone to make him sleep, has been found guilty of manslaughter.
Kelly Emery, 34, was sentenced to six years in prison for killing Fenton Hogan.
However, she was cleared of child cruelty.
During the trial it was heard she gave the Fenton the heroin substitute on 30th June, 2013 to "knock him out", enabling her to smoke crack cocaine at her home in Birmingham.
She denied the allegation, claiming he must have ingested the drug from methadone bottle she had left lying around the house.
Blood samples taken from the child showed he had as much of the drug on his system as an adult on methadone maintenance therapy.
