House Of Lords To Vote On Modified IVF Treatment

Peers are to vote later today on the proposal to allow DNA from three people to be combined for modified IVF treatment.

The new procedure, which takes DNA from two women and one man, is said to help prevent mitochondrial diseases.

If the House of Lords vote in favour of the proposal, the UK would be the first country to introduce the procedure.

Police Officer Sacked For Having Public Sex While On Duty

A Devon and Cornwall police officer has been sacked after he was spotted having sex in public while on duty.

The force said that the officer has been dismissed without notice following an internal hearing ruled that his behaviour constituted gross misconduct.

No further details of the officer or the offence have been revealed.

Man Charged Over Offensive Bradford City Fire Disaster Comments

A 45-year-old man has been charged with posting offensive remarks online about the 1985 Bradford City fire disaster.

It is understood the man posted comments to Facebook following Chesterfield's defeat by Bradford City on 13 December.

He is due to appear in court on 17 March.

Heroic Tyne Firemen Honoured
Two Tyne and Wear firefighters are to be recognised for their bravery at a special ceremony today. Andrew Nelson and Allan Richardson will be presented with the Chief Fire Officer's Commendations for brave and meritorious conduct after saving a man's life. The men took part in a dramatic rescue in the early hours of 4 February.

Four arrested following Beeb's BNP documentary
Four men have been arrested today following the broadcast of a BBC documentary on the British National Party. A 23-year-old Bradford man was arrested in connection with racially aggravated public order offences, and a 35-year-old man and a 40-year-old man, both from Keighley, were arrested in connection with conspiracy to commit damage.
