Schoolgirls Urged Not To Enter Syria

Police have issued an appeal urging three schoolgirls not to enter Syria.

It is understood 15-year-old Shamima Begum, 16-year-old Kadiza Sultana and an unnamed 15-year-old left London Gatwick on a flight for Istanbul on Tuesday.

None of the girls families knew the teenagers were leaving the UK. They are also said to be friends with another teenage girl who flew out of Britain in December and is believed to be Syria.

The girls were last seen leaving their homes on Tuesday morning, and were later captured on CCTV at Gatwick boarding a Turkish Airlines Flight.

Police hope the girls will "hear our concerns for their safety and have the courage to return now, back to their families who are so worried about them".
