Man Arrested On Suspicion Of Rape

A man has been arrested on suspicion of rape.

The 24-year-old was arrested in connection with the rape of a woman in her 20s in an underpass at Mill Lane, Maldon, on Saturday 24 January.

The incident happened between 5.45pm and 6.15pm. It is understood the woman was walking away from the Fullbridge Tesco store near the underpass, when she was approached by two men, dragged in to bushes and raped.

On Thursday (5 February), Essex Police said a 24-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of rape, indecent exposure and outraging public decency.

He is currently in custody and being questioned by detectives.

Suspected Burglary At Lincolnshire Jewellers

A man has been arrested on suspicion of burglary and attempted robbery following an "incident" at a jewellers in Westgate, Grantham.

Just after 1pm on Wednesday (4 February), a man was seen acting suspiciously and was reported to have jumped out of an upstairs window of the jewellers. A man was later arrested.

Police are conducting investigations.

Anyone who witnessed any suspicious activity in the area at the time is asked to contact police.

Man Assaulted During Attempted Robbery

A 26-year-old man has been assaulted during an attempted robbery in South Kirkby.

The man was punched and kicked by two men during the attack, which occurred on Kirkby Close in the early hours of Tuesday morning (3 February).

Detective Constable Mark Hargreaves said the incident happened at around 1.20am when the victim returned home from work and was confronted by the two suspects who demanded money and personal belongings.

When he refused, he was punched a number of times, then fell to the floor. He was then kicked in the head before a neighbour alerted police.

The suspects fled the scene.

Nothing was taken during the incident.

The victim sustained cuts to his lip and bruising to his face.

Police have appealed for information.

Wanted Man Arrested In London
The man wanted in connection with the murder of a 66-year-old man who intervened during a robbery, has been arrested. Ian John McLoughlin, 55, was arrested in London at around 01:00. He was wanted on suspicion of murder and robbery. Airports and ports had been put on alert as police hinted for McLoughlin.

Police Dig Up Pub Patio In Search For Missing Landlady
Police investigating the disappearance of a landlady in Cambridgeshire in 1997 are digging up the patio of her former pub. Deborah Steel, 37, was landlady of the Royal Standard in Ely, Cambridgeshire, when she disappeared on 28 December 1997. Police have said that Ms Steel's disappearance is now being treated as a murder investigation.

Seven Arrested On Suspicion Of Terrorist Fundraising
Seven people have been arrested on suspicion of terrorist financing offences, according to the Metropolitan Police. They were arrested at four separate addresses in London, Cardiff and Coventry at approximately 6am on suspicion of being concerned in the funding of a terrorist organisation, and laundering the proceeds of crime for that purpose.

Man Arrested In Mersey Murder Probe
Police in Merseyside have launched a murder investigation after the discovery of the body of an elderly woman in Stoneycroft yesterday. Emergency services were called at arround 10.40pm on Tuesday to a report of a fire at a property on Gorsewood Road, Belle Vale.

Man Arrested On Suspicion Of Raping 15-Year-Old
Police investigating the alleged rape of 15-year-old girl in a park in south-west London have made an arrest. It is understood police were called to Grove Park in Carshalton at about 20:30 on Saturday to reports of a rape. Officers investigating the incident have arrested a 26-year-old on suspicion of rape.
