Court Approves Compensation Scheme For Savile Victims
The Court of Appeal has approved a compensation scheme for the victims of prolific sex offender Jimmy Savile.
The compensation scheme was established earlier this year in co-operation by the Savile estate, the BBC, the NHS, Barnardo's and lawyers representing alleged victims.
However, the Jimmy Savile Charitable Trust, understood to be a beneficiary of the former DJs estate, said the scheme would be unable to "weed out" false claims and that too much of the money would go to lawyers.
During the Court of Appeal case, the trust also called for NatWest to be dismissed as the executor of the Savile estate, however, the appeal court rejected both challenges.
It is understood that some 200 people are to make claims for compensation and that payouts have been capped at £60,000.
