Lewis Hamilton Named BBC Sports Personality Of The Year

Lewis Hamilton has been named 2014 BBC Sports Personality Of The Year.

Kenny Dalglish and Jonny Wilkinson presented him with the award at the SSE Hydro in Glasgow.

In second place was Rory McIlroy, and athlete Jo Pavey came third.

Sir Chris Hoy was presented with the Sports Personality Of The Year Lifetime Achievement Award by His Royal Highness Prince Harry. Cyclist Sir Chris Hoy is Great Britain's most decorated Olympian with six gold medals and one silver. The Scotsman, who retired from track cycling in 2013, is an 11-time world champion and two-time Commonwealth Games gold medallist. He was given a knighthood in the 2009 New Year Honours' list.

Kelly Holmes wins BBC Sports Award
Double Olympic Gold medal winner Kelly Holmes has received the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award at Television Centre in west London. The first British athlete to win double gold medals in middle distance running in over 80 years, Kelly Holmes overcame injury and disappointment to win the 800m and 1500m events in Athens.

National Jockey Wins Sports Personality Race
The Co Antrim Grand National winning jockey, Tony McCoy has been voted the 2010 BBC Sports Personality of the Year. The 36-year-old has been the champion jump jockey 15 times and becomes the first rider to win the BBC award after claiming 41.98% of the vote.

Six-time Olympic gold medalist Chris Hoy has announced he is to retire from cycling, ending speculation that he would compete at the 2014 Commonwealth Games. Hoy, who won two gold medals in London alongside11 world titles, said: "I wanted to get a medal for Scotland. I didn't think I could so wanted someone else to take my place.

Consumer groups chew out Cadbury’s sports scheme
Consumer groups have branded Cadbury's Get Active promotion scheme as an “irresponsible ploy to encourage unhealthy eating among kids”. Cadbury's 'Free Sports Kit 4 Schools' scheme offers sports equipment to schools in exchange for Cadbury's chocolate bar wrappers, claiming that it will encourage children to get more active.

ONS Figures Show Year-On-Year Increase In Retail Sales
New figures from the Office for National Statistics have revealed a 1.5% drop in retail sales in January, down from a pre-Christmas boost of 2.5% but still 4.4% up on January 2013.
