London Airspace Closed By 'Technical Problem'

Airspace over London has been closed due to a computer failure, flight safety body, Eurocontrol has announced.

It is understood that there has been a "technical problem" at Eurocontrol's Swanwick control centre in Hampshire.

An announcement made on the body's website said that airspace would be closed until 19:00 on Friday evening.

King Richard III Ticket Ballot Opened

Members of the public can now apply for seats at the reburial ceremony of King Richard III.

King Richard, who was killed in battle in 1485, will be reinterred at Leicester Cathedral on 26 March.

200 seats are to be made available to the public at the ceremony and will be drawn by ballot.

Courier Vows To Clear Delivery Backlog

Courier service Yodel has vowed to clear its backlog by the end of the weekend.

Apologising to customers for the delays in deliveries, the firm also announced that collections from its distribution centres would be suspended until it has cleared the backlog.

The courier said an expected rise in the amount of online orders during the 'Black Friday' weekend had caused the backlog.

Nurse Disciplinary Backlog 'Will Take Two Years To Clear'
The Nursing and Midwifery Council has said it will take ore than two years to clear the backlog of disciplinary cases for nurses and midwives. Chief executive Jackie Smith told MPs on the health select committee the timescale was "unacceptably long", bit added she had to be realistic about what could be achieved.

Alton Towers Remains Closed Following Accident
Alton Towers remains closed today, 3 June, following an incident on one of its attractions on Tuesday. At around 2pm yesterday, two carriages crashed on a low section of track on the theme park's The Smiler rollercoaster. Sixteen passengers were on the ride at the time, some of which were trapped for four-and-a-half hours.

Fire Closes Oxfordshire Shopping Outlet
A fire has broken out at the Bicester Village shopping outlet in Oxfordshire. The blaze started at around 8.45am this morning it is understood. Seven fire crews are currently at the scene as they try to extinguish the fire. It is thought the blaze broke out at Carluccio's restaurant on the site. Its roof has been destroyed.

School Bus Driver Arrested After Crash
A 47-year-old bus driver has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving following a bus crash this morning which injured around 20 people. A school bus collided with a lorry on the A685 at Lowgill, Kendal at around 8.25am this morning (Monday).

Met Police Conduct Domestic Violence Crackdown
Met Police have made 264 arrests in London as part of a week-long crackdown on domestic violence. Statistics show one in three women will suffer some form of physical or sexual abuse by their partner. Assistant Commissioner Simon Byrne said: "Suffering behind closed doors should not and cannot be ignored.
