Manchester Day Care Centre Badly Damaged In Fire
A day care centre in Manchester has been badly damaged in a fire.
Four fire engines and some 30 firefighters were needed to tackle the blaze at the Minehead Resource Centre on Dermot Murphy Close in Withington. The fire was reported at about 21:00 on Wednesday.
It is understood the building's roof and "some walls" had collapsed but part of the building "to the rear" was saved.
The cause of the fire is not yet known but it is understood that a joint fire service and police investigation is underway.

Heroic Tyne Firemen Honoured
Two Tyne and Wear firefighters are to be recognised for their bravery at a special ceremony today. Andrew Nelson and Allan Richardson will be presented with the Chief Fire Officer's Commendations for brave and meritorious conduct after saving a man's life. The men took part in a dramatic rescue in the early hours of 4 February.

Firefighters launch four-day strike

Major fire causes disruption in Manchester city centre
A major fire has destroyed a five-storey office building in Manchester, spreading to a second building. The fire broke out on Dale Street around 5:55am on Monday morning. It is understood that the initial fire has been brought under control, but the building is now in danger of collapsing.

A house has been destroyed and two more badly damaged in a suspected gas explosion in Sheffield. South Yorkshire Fire Service has said the blast was reported at the property in Dundas Road shortly after 9am this morning. A spokesman for South Yorkshire Police said: "Initial information indicates that gas is the source of the explosion.

Suspicious Glasgow Car Fires
Detectives in Glasgow's East End are investigating a spate of vehicle fire attacks in the city yesterday. Shortly after 3.30am police were called to a report of a vehicle fire in Ashvale Crescent, Glasgow. Upon arrival police were advised by Strathclyde Fire Service that four vehicles had been damaged by fire.
