'Weather Bomb' Leaves People Without Power In Scotland

Over 17,000 people in Scotland have been left without electricity as a "weather bomb" struck the Western Isles.

Many train and ferry services have also been forced to cancel as winds of up to 80mph are expected.

Schools and nurseries in the Western Isles are also closed.

The Met Office has issued widespread weather warnings across Britain.

A number of flood alerts have been issued in many parts of Scotland.

Teen Charged Over Sex Assault
A teenage boy has been charged in connection with a sexual assault on a 24-year-old woman near Stirling, it has emerged. The woman was attacked on 3 June at about 8.00pm as she walked along Cornton Road in Bridge of Allan. Central Scotland Police had earlier issued an appeal for anyone with information about the attack to contact them.

Severe Weather Warning Issued For Scotland
Severe weather warnings have been issued in Scotland following heaving rain and gale force winds, with more of the same weather predicted today. The Met Office says that as much as four centimetres of rain could fall across Scotland, while gales of 60mph-70mph are forecast.

Strong Winds Expected Across England And Scotland
The Met Office has issued amber warnings for northern Scotland on Thursday and Friday. A yellow weather warning has also been issued for the rest of Scotland and north England. It also warns of high winds from Thursday to Saturday. Strong winds of up to 70mph are expected across the countries.

Weather Warning Issued As Big Freeze Continues
Severe weather warnings have been issued by the Met Office, as temperatures across the UK are plummeting towards -10C. The alerts were issued by the Met Office for Tuesday morning in parts of south-east England and northern Scotland, and forecasters are predicting the arctic conditions to persist over the weekend and into next week.

Women Motorists 'More Prepared' For Bad Weather
Women drivers are more likely to get caught out by severe weather, according to new research published by the Highways Agency. A survey of nearly 1,300 road users showed that women were less likely than men to make a journey by car after hearing a severe weather warning. Only 44% of women said that they would continue, compared with 62% of men.
