Gordon Brown To Stand Down
Former Prime Minister Gordon Brown is to stand down as an MP at the next general election in May.
In a speech from his constituency in Kirkcaldy, Mr Brown said he is concentrating on his work as United Nations Special Envoy for Global Education.
He said: "I still hold to the belief of politics as public service. I still hold to the belief in something bigger than ourselves. It has been an honour to serve the friends I have made here and for that honour, I thank you.
"I hope you will allow me to single out and thank Sarah for her support and love – but also for leading our family's charity work with Theirworld and A World at School, as we try to help in our own small way among millions of children's champions to achieve a simple but revolutionary aim.
"It is why I am UN Special Envoy for Global Education. So that every child will be able to go to school."
