Labour Reveal Plan To Charge Tourists To Visit UK

The Labour Party has revealed a plan to charge tourists a "fee" for visiting the UK and using the money to pay for an additional 1,000 border guards.

The Shadow Home Secretary Yvette Cooper, said visitors from countries that have a visa waiver agreement with the UK, which allows fast-track entry, would be charged around £10 per visit. The party claims that with some 5.5 million visitors from countries with a visa-waiver agreement in place, the plan could raise an additional £55 million.

Labour would use the money to hire an extra 1,000 border guards to help reduce the number of illegal immigrants entering the UK.

The proposal has been criticised by the Conservatives, who said it shows Labour is "not ready for government".
