Nicola Sturgeon Announced As New SNP Leader

The new leader of the Scottish National Party (SNP) has been announced as Nicola Sturgeon.

The announcement was made at the SNP conference, where Ms Sturgeon pledged to continue fighting for Scottish independence.

She is also due to take office as Scotland's new First Minister next week, replacing Alec Salmond, who retired after the failed Scottish independence referendum earlier this year.

Replacing Ms Sturgeon will be MP Stewart Hosie, who will become deputy SNP leader.
