Cambridge Death Becomes Murder Investigation

Police in Cambridge have launched a murder investigation following the death of 21-year-old Alex Jeffery, who was hit by a car following a fight outside a hotel.

It is understood Mr Jeffery had been involved in a fight at about 03:40 outside the Cambridge City Hotel on Downing Street on 1st November before being struck by a car.

He died of his injuries in hospital a week after the incident.

Police said they are keen to speak to people in the area at the time, in particular two security guards who are said to have come to the aid of Mr Jeffery.

Police also appealed to the driver and passengers of the car that hit Mr Jeffery to come forward.

A post-mortem examination is due to take place this week.

Detectives appealing for witnesses and information after a so-called 'ride-by murder' in Tottenham have released an image of the car (shown here) in which the victim was shot. Police Investigate 'Unexplained' Death In Cambridge
Four men arrested in connection with the discovery of a man's body in a shop in Cambridge have been released on bail. It is understood the body of man, aged in his 40s, was found at about 06:30 on Monday at the One-Stop shop in Ditton Lane in Cambridge.

Guests Evacuated After Cambridge Hotel Fire
Some 150 people have been evacuated from a hotel in Cambridge after a fire broke out at around 6am on Tuesday morning. More than 60 firefighters from Cambridgeshire, Suffolk and Hertfordshire tackled the blaze at the De Vere University Arms Hotel in Cambridge city centre.

Retired Police Chaplain Charged Over Child Abuse Images
A former police chaplain is due to appear before Cambridge Magistrates' Court charged with making and possessing indecent images of children. 62-year-old Stephen Talbot, of Main Street, Little Downham, was arrested on the day he retired from his chaplaincy at Cambridgeshire police headquarters, in October.

Warning issued over letter bomb
Police investigating the posting of an explosive device to the headquarters of the Cambridge Labour Party have warned businesses, householders and community organisations in the area to be alert. The device was posted to the party's headquarters at Alex Wood Hall in Norfolk Street in Cambridge.
