Queen Sends First Ever Tweet

The Queen has sent her first ever tweet to open a new gallery at the Science Museum in London.

The tweet read: ‘It is a pleasure to open the Information Age exhibition today at the @ScienceMuseum and I hope people will enjoy visiting. Elizabeth R.’

The queen posted it from the @BritishMonarchy twitter account in front of 600 guests.

The message is limey to re-tweeted thousands of times by its followers.

The Information Age exhibition explores how breakthroughs have transformed the way people communicate over the past 200 years.

Public Name New Neighbourhoods In Olympic Park
Five new residential areas that will be built on the future Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park have been named following a public competition. Almost 2,000 people submitted their suggestions to the Olympic Park Legacy Company, inspired by factors such as the future design for the area, its history or the Games themselves.

Officers from Greater Manchester Police on a 24 hour tweet project have recorded a total of 3,205 calls. Tweet on the beat highlighted how much time officers spend on "social work". In a live 24-hour blog, details of every call, received by Manchester police, appeared on social network site Twitter.

Man Arrested Over Michael Le Vell Abuse Case Tweet
Greater Manchester Police have arrested a man on suspicion of tweeting the identity of the woman accusing Coronation Street actor Michael Le Vell of rape. It is understood the man was arrested in the Gloucester area and is 43-years-old. He is alleged to have tweeted about the ongoing trial of the actor, revealing the identity of his accuser.

Labour Councillor Suspended Over Auschwitz Tweet
A Labour councillor has been suspended from the party after she retweeted a conservative election poster containing a picture of Auschwitz. Nottingham councillor Rosemary Healy insisted she did not see what the picture was of and issued "profound apologies". The poster reads: "Let's stay on the road to a stronger economy.
