Woman Killed After Being Hit By Tree
A woman has died in London after being hit by a falling tree.
It is understood the tree fell opposite Hyde Park Barracks at around 11am on Tuesday.
A spokesperson for the London Ambulance Service said: "We sent an ambulance crew, a responder by car, an advanced paramedic, a medical team from London's Air Ambulance by car and a duty officer to the scene.
"Sadly, despite our attempts to resuscitate the patient, a woman died at the scene."
In a separate incident, three people were injured by a falling tree in Southwick, West Sussex, but their injuries are not thought to be serious; while in Belgravia, a man thought to be in his 30s was injured when a tree fell on him at around 12.20pm. He was taken to hospital with injuries to his leg, chest and head.
The high winds currently battering the UK are the remnants of Hurricane Gonzalo, which reached the island of Bermuda last week. A weather warning is in place for much of the country, with widespread travel disruption being reported.
In north Wales, gusts of up to 70mph have been recorded, while Heathrow has said a number of flights had been cancelled. Ferry crossings have been cancelled and train journeys are facing delays due to debris to fallen trees and debris on the tracks. On the roads, forecasters have advised drivers to leave additional time for their journey and exercise caution when driving as fallen leaves and debris could affect drainage on the roads, increasing the risk of surface water and making conditions hazardous.
