Public Consultation Launched On New Silvertown Tunnel
A public consultation has been launched for proposed east London rvier crossing, the Silvertown Tunnel, which would connect Greenwich Peninsula with the Royal Docks.
The proposed tunnel, which it is estimated would cost £750m, would help reduce congestion, with London Mayor, Boris Johnson, describing it as a "vital new link".
The consultation includes a proposal to fund the new crossing by introducing charges for users of the Silvertown and Blackwall Tunnels.
Opponents of the new proposal, the No to Silvertown group, have said that the proposed crossing would increase air pollution.
The public consultation will begin on 15 October and run until 19 December and the findings will be presented to the Mayor of London in 2015.
