Missing Teen 'Heading For Syria'
There are concerns a teenage girl, who was reported missing from Bristol last week, is heading to Syria after it was reported she could have recently become "radicalised".
The 15-year-old was reported missing last Wednesday by her parents; she had left for school as normal, but when her father went to collect her at 3.30pm, she did not appear. It has been claimed that the teen is currently in Turkey, leading to fears that she is travelling to Syria.
In a statement, Assistant Chief Constable Louisa Rolfe, Avon and Somerset Police, said: "There are indications she may have been radicalised, but at the moment, our priority is to find her before she crosses the border to Syria.
"We must all be vigilant and ready to spot the signs of radicalisation. Often, young Muslims who go to Syria can be naive and don't recognise that they are being sucked into joining extremist groups.
"This is not about criminalising these young people, it's about preventing tragedies."
The teenager, from Bristol, has been described as "incredibly bright, articulate and popular" by her family. Police have declined to name the student.
