Memorial To Be Held For Murdered Police Inspector
A memorial service is to be held today to mark the 25th anniversary of the death of police inspector Ray Codling.
Insp Codling was shot and killed by Anthony Hughes on 14 September 1989 as he patrolled the M62 at Birch Services. He was 49-years-old.
A hunt was launched for Anthony Hughes, but he was later found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
A service is to be held at Birch Services.

Funeral Service Held For April Jones
A funeral service has been held for April Jones, the five-year-old girl murdered by Mark Bridger almost a year ago. Family, friends, members of the local community, police and members of a search and rescue team that had helped search for the missing girl gathered in April's hometown of Machynlleth in mid Wales for the service.

Service Held As UK's Oldest Prison Closes
The UK's oldest working prison is to close today, with a service taking place to mark the event. The prison in Shepton Mallet was one of seven closures announced by the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) in January. It said is wanted to drive down the cost of running "old and uneconomic" prisons. With the closures, the MoJ expects to save £63m a year.

A service of remembrance for those who served and died in the recent campaign in Iraq has been held at St Paul's Cathedral in the City of London today. The service was led by the Queen, and included over 900 servicemen and women who served in the Gulf, and some 250 relatives and friends of the 51 soldiers who died during the conflict.

A memorial service has been held to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Dibbles Bridge Disaster. 33 people died after a coach plunged 16ft off the bridge in North Yorkshire and landed in a garden on 27 May 1975. Only 13 people survived the crash after the brakes on the coach failed. The service was held at 6.
