PM Says He Would Be 'Heartbroken' If Scotland Leaves UK

While campaigning in Edinburgh, the Prime Minister has said that he would be "heartbroken" if Scotland leaves the UK following the independence referendum on 18 September.

Mr Cameron was speaking at an event in the capitol, when he is reported to have said: "I love my country more than I love my party."

Mr Cameron was in Scotland on the same day as the Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg and the Labour leader Ed Miliband.

Scottish voters will go to the polls on 18 September to decide if the country should remain part of the UK or become independent.

The latest polls suggest that 38% of voters favour independence, with 39% preferring to remain part of the UK. 23% remain undecided.

UK Drivers Continue To Face The Freeze

Hague Welcomes Report On Independent Scotland
UK Foreign Secretary William Hague has welcomed a report carried out by the Foreign Affairs Committee, which found that an independent Scotland would have to apply for membership of NATO, the EU and the UN. The Committee announced its inquiry into 'the foreign policy implications of and for a separate Scotland' on 18 July 2012.

BT To Recruit Hundreds Of New Engineers
A total of 350 new engineering jobs are to be created in Scotland and Wales by BT, as part of a recruitment drive across the UK to support the rollout of fibre broadband. The company has said that it looking for 160 new engineers in Scotland and 190 in Wales.

N Scotland Residents To Save £50m On Energy Bills
Residents in the north of Scotland could be set to save £50m a year on their energy bills, following the announcement of the Hydro Benefit Replacement Scheme. The government initiative aims to help residents in the north of Scotland avoid the higher distribution costs associated with that part of the UK.
