Former Lords Leader To Oversee EU Financial Services
Jonathan Hill, the former leader of the House of Lords, has been appointed to oversee financial services as part of the new 28-strong European Commission.
It is understood that there has been serious competition over the EU jobs, as it is seen as the most powerful institution, which is responsible for draft legislation, ensuring compliance with treaties and negotiating trade deals.
It is understood that the announcement of Mr Hills appointment came as a "surprise" for the government, but one that has been welcomed.
