Artist Buries Gold Bars On Folkestone Beach
People in Folkestone are being encouraged to dig for gold on Outer Harbour beach after artist Michael Sailstorfer buried bullion worth £10,000.
The German artist has hidden thirty 24-carat gold bars in the beaches' sand and urged people to try and find the items.
People will be allowed to keep any gold that they find as part of the town's triennial arts festival.
Cheddar Gorge Dwarfed By Shetland Cave
A cave in Shetland had been hailed as the biggest in Britain.
Geologist Jonathan Swale said that the Calders Geo at Esha Ness, is one and a half times the size of Cheddar Gorge in Somerset, measuring at 60ft tall with a floor area of 5,600 sq mt.
Rooney Named New England Captain
Wayne Rooney has been named as the new England captain, by manager Roy Hodgson.
The 28-year-old will replace the recently retired Steven Gerrard, who stood down following England's World Cup elimination.
Rooney has made 95 appearances for England, scoring 45 goals.

British Photographer Killed In Libya
An award-winning British photographer has been killed in Misrata. It is believed Tim Hetherington, 40, was killed in a rocket-propelled grenade attack while covering the conflict in Libya. An American photographer, Chris Hondros, 41, was also killed, and two others were injured in the attack.

A new programme is underway to vaccinate all newborn babies against meningitis B in the UK. It is understood the scheme, which begins today 1 September, is the first of its kind in the world. Babies will be offered the MenB vaccine with other routine vaccinations at two months, four months and 12 to 13 months of age.

More than 20,000 patients of a Nottinghamshire dentist are to be tested for blood-borne viruses. According to reports, the dentist has been suspended over a suspected breach of infection control standards. The BBC has reported that surveillance cameras were installed in the dentist's practice after a whistleblower raised concerns with authorities.

Nigel Farage has led his UKIP MEPs in a silent protest against the European Parliament – at the opening of its new session in Strasbourg. An orchestra, also in attendance at the session, was playing Beethoven's Ode to Joy, the EU's unofficial anthem, when the MEPs turned their backs.
