200 Homes Still Without Gas After Water Leak

Around 200 homes in Wales are still without gas after a burst water pipe flooded gas lines last Thursday.

Wales and West Utilities have said that some 150,000 litres of water has been pumped from gas pipes since last Thursday, with 540 of the 755 homes affected by the leak, now reconnected.

It is understood that engineers are having to go door-to-door to reconnected house to their gas supply after clearing the water from gas lines.

The operation to clear the leaked water from the gas supply has been described as "complex".

Centrica Posts £1 Million In Profits - To Consumers Anger
British Gas owner Centrica has posted half-year profits of almost £1 billion - much to the anger of consumer groups. Centrica maintain that it has been "absolutely necessary" to raise household gas prices as profits were down 20% in the first six months of this year to £992 million - down from £1.23 billion in 2007.

Homes Without Gas After Water Pipe Leaks Into Supply
Some 500 homes in Blaenau Gwent are without gas after a burst water pipe leaked water into the gas supply. Engineers from Wales and West Utilities are working to fix the problem, but have described the job as "complex". Gas customers in the Nantyglo area are being urged to make sure their gas supply is turned off.

Over 8,000 Homes Without Water After Mains Burst In Bristol
Up to 8,000 homes have been left without water after a mains water pipe burst near Bristol. It is understood that a 30 inch water main ruptured in Kingswood on Thursday afternoon, leaving thousands of residents without water and forcing the closure of 18 schools in the area. Bristol Water are supplying water to residents via tankers.

Warning Follows Gas Installer's Jail Sentence
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has issued a warning to the public to only allow qualified 'CORGI' registered gas installers to work on their appliances. The call was made shortly after the inquest into the tragic death of a baby killed by scalding water from a faulty council boiler ruled that the death was 'avoidable'.

Burst Water Main Causes Chaos
A burst water main has caused considerable flooding in Glasgow. A statement from Scottish Water said: "An issue with a faulty valve which regulates pressure has resulted in burst water mains in Mount Stuart Street, Shawlands; Cowcaddens and Duke St at the junction of East Wellington Street and Shettleston Road.
