Security Forces Hunting Suspected British Jihadist
British police and security services are working to try and identify an Islamic State (IS) militant who appeared in a video which apparently shows the beheading of American journalist James Foley.
The video was posted by extremist group IS and shows a jihadist who speaks with a suspected British accent.
Mr Foley had been missing since 2012 when he was kidnapped in Syria.
According to reports the prime minister said that while it was not a time for "knee-jerk reactions", it was looking "increasingly likely" that the man who appears to carry out the beheading of Mr Foley is British.
The video has been widely described as "brutal" and "barbaric", with many people online urging others not to share the footage or screen caps of the video.
YouTube removed the video shortly after it appeared online.
