No UK 'Boots On The Ground' In Iraq - PM

There will be no UK "boots on the ground" in Iraq, the Prime Minister has said.

The prime minister was responding to Labour's accusation that Britain's policy in Iraq was "pretty unclear".

However, David Cameron said that the government's stance on Iraq is "clear" and that keeping people in the UK safe remained his "top priority".

He said that they would continue to work with the Iraq government and the Kurds to help tackle the Islamic State (IS) militant group, which he described as "monstrous".

The extreme Sunni Islam group, formerly known as ISIS, is understood to be trying to build a so-called "caliphate" – a new Islamic state spanning Iraq and Syria.

IS have been accused of carrying out mass killings of non-Muslims.

The UK has making aid drops into northern Iraq to assist those fleeing the militants.
