Unexploded Bomb Found Near Gatwick Airport

Workmen have uncovered an unexploded wartime bomb near Gatwick airport.

The 1.5ft shell was found on the A23 London Road in Crawley, which leads to the airport.

The road has been closed in both directions but it is understood that airport is operating as normal.

An Army bomb disposal team are on site examining the device.

People travelling to Gatwick have been advised to use Gatwick Road.

Race hate preacher deported
Race hate cleric Abdullah al-Faisal has been deported from Britain, Home Secretary John Reid has confirmed. The 39-year-old, who is of Jamaican origin, is understood to have left Gatwick airport, bound for Jamaica, around midday, accompanied by two police escorts and an immigration officer.

Men In Court Over Boxer's Murder
Two men have appeared in court today charged with the murder of former British heavyweight boxer, James Oyebola. Rene McKoy, 19, and Kanyanta Mulenga, 22, both from south London appeared before West London Magistrates' Court on Thursday. They were remanded in custody to appear before the Old Bailey on January 3.

Gatwick Airport Begins Ebola Screening
Gatwick Airport has started screening passengers arriving from countries currently at risk of the Ebola virus. The screening will commence at the north terminal of the airport, but will be extended at the south terminal by the end of this week.

Gatwick Airport Sold Off
One of Britain's biggest airports has been sold. After the Competition Commission ruled in March that the company would have to sell the airport within two years, BAA said today it has agreed the sale of Gatwick Airport in a deal worth £1.51bn. The airport will be sold to Global Infrastructure Partners, the owner of City Airport, BAA said.

Boy killed in car accident at Gatwick Airport named
The three-year-old boy killed in a car accident at Gatwick Airport on Saturday has been named. Rhys Edward Hood, from Brecon in Wales, had gone to the airport to see his grandparents off on a holiday flight. He hit by a vehicle as his father and grandfather were unloading luggage from the boot of their car at the North Terminal in Gatwick Airport.
