Fire Brigade Union Announce 8 Days Of Strikes
The Fire Brigade Union has announced a new series of strikes in England and Wales to begin on 9th August.
Firefighters will strike for "a few hours" for eight consecutive days, the union said.
The strike action is the latest in an ongoing dispute over government plans to cut pensions and extend the retirement age.
The union said that more details of the strike action will be decided dependent on ongoing talks.

Sellafield Workers Join Wildcat Strikes
Hundreds of contract workers at a nuclear site have walked out in support of protests over the use of foreign labour. The wildcat strikes, which broke out last week over an oil refinerys use of foreign staff, today continued to spread as around 900 workers at Sellafield and 300 contractors at Heysham walked out.

Pension Strikes Not Ruled Out
Following TUC talks, union bosses have failed to rule out industrial action over public sector pension cuts. Brendan Barber, TUC General Secretary, agreed that the issue of pensions united workers regarding possible strikes. However he said the campaign against spending cuts would go on, with a mass protest planned on 26 March.

British Gas workers set to stage strikes
Thousands of British Gas engineers are set to stage five 24-hour strikes over pension rights. The strikes will be held on December 12, 19 and 21 and January 6 and 9, the GMB union announced. The union also announced that out-of-hour cover would also be suspended between December 12 – 23 and January 4 – 10.

Firefighters are stepping up pressure on national employers over a dispute surrounding a pay deal the union secured after strike action earlier this year. It has been reported today that some brigades across the UK have instituted unofficial work to rule action, and some are responding only to emergency call outs.

Firefighters in England and Wales will join a one-day public sector strike on 10 July, according to the Fire Brigades Union (FBU). More than a million council and health workers, teachers and civil servants are expected to take industrial action on the same day.
