20% Increase In Reports Of Sexual Offences - ONS

Newly published figures have revealed a 20% increase in the number of sexual offences recorded by police in England and Wales.

It is claimed that this rise could be attributed to victims being more willing to come forward and report crimes.

According to the Office for National Statistics (ONS), the increase is related to the impact of high profile investigations, such as Operation Yewtree. It is also thought that improved compliance with the recording standards for sexual offences in some police forces may also be a factor.
