Fire Breaks Out At East London Recycling Centre
Residents in Canning Town, east London have been advised to stay indoors and to keep windows and doors closed after a fire broke out at a recycling plant.
The fire, at an industrial estate in Scarab Close, was reported at about 00:30 on Tuesday morning. It is understood that more than 400 tonnes of recycled waste caught alight.
The cause of the fire is not yet known.
The Fire Brigade Unions were officially on strike when the blaze was reported and four contingency crews were brought in to tackle the fire.
Once the strike action ended it is understood that six fire engines and 30 firefighters responded and brought the blaze under control.
An investigation into the fire is underway.

Heroic Tyne Firemen Honoured
Two Tyne and Wear firefighters are to be recognised for their bravery at a special ceremony today. Andrew Nelson and Allan Richardson will be presented with the Chief Fire Officer's Commendations for brave and meritorious conduct after saving a man's life. The men took part in a dramatic rescue in the early hours of 4 February.

Firefighters launch four-day strike
More than 1,000 firefighters across Merseyside have begun a four-day strike in protest over planned job cuts. Another four-day stoppage is scheduled to begin two hours after the first one ends.

A huge fire at a recycling plant in Salford has been brought under control, Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service has reported. The fire at the Junction Eco Park, in the Clifton area of Swinton, broke out at about 16:40 on Sunday, and involved what authorities called a "large quantity" of recycled plastics.

Suspicious Glasgow Car Fires
Detectives in Glasgow's East End are investigating a spate of vehicle fire attacks in the city yesterday. Shortly after 3.30am police were called to a report of a vehicle fire in Ashvale Crescent, Glasgow. Upon arrival police were advised by Strathclyde Fire Service that four vehicles had been damaged by fire.
