Driver Jailed For Doing 150mph With Children Unsecured In The Back Seat

A man has been jailed after police caught him driving at 150mph near Histon with four young children in the vehicle, who were not wearing seat belts.

Keith Millard, 27, of Blakewell Road, was seen driving a black mercedes on the A1 at Norman Cross by police carrying out a speed check at around 09.35am on 14th September.

Police followed the car to the A14 where it slowed down to about 90mph due to heavy traffic, and officers were able to pull the vehicle over.

A woman was in the passenger seat, two six-month-old twins were in the back in car seats with no seat belts, a one-year-old girl was asleep between the twins and a two-year-old boy was in the footwell, according to Cambridgeshire Police.

Sergeant Gordon Murray said: "It is shocking to think of the danger that Millard put these young children in.

"Not only would any collision, or loss of control, at such speeds have potentially tragic consequences for both the driver and other road users, but the effect on unrestrained toddlers would almost certainly have been fatal.

"It is only through sheer luck that no-one was injured or killed by his driving and this case should send a strong message that such reckless behaviour will not be tolerated by police or the courts."

Milliard was jailed for 20 weeks and banned from driving for three years.
