Blairs to go on week-long diplomatic venture
Prime Minister Tony Blair and his wife Cherie will set off for the US and the Far East next week for seven days of engagements.
Between from 17 until 24 July, the Blairs will visit Washington where he will address a joint meeting of Congress and have talks with President Bush.
He will then go on to Tokyo on Friday evening, where the Prime Minister will spend Saturday and the first part of Sunday meeting business leaders as well as holding talks with Prime Minister Koizumi.
The Prime Minister then heads for the South Korean capital Seoul where he will spend the rest of Sunday. While there he will have his first meeting with President Roh.
Monday and Tuesday will be spent in Beijing and Shanghai, where the Prime Minister will be joined by a delegation of British businessmen for this part of the trip. The programme includes talks with President Hu Jintao, Premier Wen Jiabao. He will also call on former President Jiang Zemin.
Finally, on Wednesday and Thursday he will be in Hong Kong. The Prime Minister will meet investors and business leaders, and the Chief Executive, Tung Chee Hwa.

UK Welcomes US Troop Reduction In Afghanistan
The British Prime Minister and Chief of the Defence Staff have both welcomed the announcement that the US will be withdrawing 10,000 troops from Afghanistan by the end of this year. US President Barack Obama announced last night that 10,000 US troops will be withdrawn from Afghanistan this year and another 23,000 by the end of September 2012.

Brown Arrives In US For Talks With Bush
Gordon Brown has arrived in the US for his first formal talks with US President George Bush since becoming Prime Minister. The Prime Minister flew into the Maryland base on Sunday night ahead of the talks at Camp David. During his flight, Mr Brown told reporters: "I want to do more to strengthen even further our relationship with the US.

£1bn Towards Free School Meals
£1bn is being unlocked to fund the Department of Education's free school meals commitment. The news, announced by deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg, follows an announcement in September that every child in reception, year 1 and year 2 in state-funded schools will receive a free school lunch.
