Hundreds Evacuated From London Skyscraper After Fire Alert

Nearly 900 people have been evacuated from London skyscraper The Shard, the tallest in Western Europe, after smoke was discovered in the basement at 10:30.

Seven fire engines and 50 firefighters were dispatched to the 1,004 ft-high building following reports of smoke at the London landmark. They erected a 50-metre cordon while they leaded a mass evacuation of about 900 people.

According to the London Fire Brigade (LFB), they could not find any fire in the building and are now investigating what caused the smoke. No injuries have been reported.

A tweet from @TheShardLondon said: "Emergency services are responding to a fire alarm at The Shard. Evacuation procedures have been followed and we are ready to assist as needed."
