Liver Brand Surgeon Resigns
Simon Bramhall, a surgeon who worked at Birmingham's Queen Elizabeth Hospital, has resigned following a disciplinary hearing after being accused of branding his initials into a patient's liver.
The surgeon was suspended before Christmas following the allegations, but now University Hospitals Birmingham has confirmed Mr Bramhall's resignation has been accepted.
The doctor, who worked in the Queen Elizabeth liver unit for 12 years, is a highly-regarded liver, spleen and pancreas surgeon.
Mr. Bramhall said he quit as a result of the stress caused during the past five months.
Lost Fishermen Lost Ordeal With Tea And Biscuits
Two fishermen of the same family have survived being lost for two days at sea with only a flask of tea and a couple of biscuits, after their compass stopped working.
James Reid, 75, and his grandson David Irvine, 35, both from Inverbervie in Scotland, returned home after they were discovered by another boat off the Aberdeenshire coast.
The pair became lost after their compass stopped working and a thick fog appeared. They were unable to contact anyone as they did not have a phone onboard.
The crew of the Sylvia Bowers DS8 reported picking them up safe and sound at about 08:00 and a lifeboat took them ashore, where they said they passed the time "cursing one another".
Mr Reid said: "We had a litre and half of water, a small flask of tea enough for two and half cups and two biscuits. That was it."
