Seven Officers Investigated Over Ian Watkins Case

Seven police officers have been served with gross misconduct notices as part of an inquiry into to handling of allegations made against Lostprophets' frontman, Ian Watkins.

The inquiry is looking at whether the celebrity status of Ian Watkins helped him avoid earlier prosecution for his crimes as a child sex abuser.

Notices have been served on three officers from South Yorkshire Police, two from Bedfordshire Police and two from South Wales Police.

Independent Police Complaints Commission Commissioner Jan Williams said: "We are continuing to gather and analyse information in all three investigations in order to establish what steps were taken by police in response to the allegations made against Ian Watkins, whether he could have been brought to justice sooner and whether his celebrity status had any impact on those investigations."

Ian Watkins was jailed last year for 29 years for serious child sex offences.

Ian Watkins Loses Legal Challenge
Former Lostprophets frontman, Ian Watkins, has lost a legal challenge to appeal his 29-year jail sentence for a string of child sex offences. Watkins, 36, is claiming he was treated too harshly when he was given his jail sentence in December 2013. He was also given an additional six years on licence.

Paedophile Ian Watkins Jailed For 29 Years
Ian Watkins, former frontman for the band Lost Prophets, has been jailed for a total of 35 years after pleading guilty to 13 child sex offences. In November the 36-year-old from Pontypridd pleaded guilty to 13 child sex offences, including the attempted rape of a baby. He was sentenced to 29 years in prison and six years on licence.

Ian Watkins Pleads Guilty To 13 Charges Of Child Sexual Offences
The former frontman of Welsh rock band Lostprophets Ian Watkins has pleaded guilty to 13 charges of sex offences against children, including the attempted rape of a baby. The 36-year-old from Pontypridd had previously "furiously denied" the charges against but charged his plea on the opening day of his trial on Tuesday.
