Fire Body Find Becomes Murder Investigation
Detectives investigating the discovery of a man's body in a flat that had been set on fire have said that the victim had been stabbed and the case is now being treated as murder.
Firefighters found the body of Antonio James Tommaso in the flat at Sheridan Lodge, Potters Road, New Barnet.
At first the death was treated as suspicious, however, following the discovery of a red petrol container in the flat and a post-mortem on Mr Tommaso finding he had died from stab wounds, police have ungraded the case to murder.
It is believed that Mr Tommaso had been dead for 2 to 3 days before the fire was set in the flat.
Police believe that whoever killed Mr Tommaso returned to the flat to set it on fire.
Police have appealed for information from anyone who knew Mr Tommaso, or may have seen in the days prior to the incident.
