UK Could Delay Scottish Independence Date
A House of Lords report has said the proposed date of the Scottish independence should be delayed if it is not the best interests of the rest of the UK.
The report also established that MPs for Scottish seats should not be allowed to negotiate for the rest of the UK on terms of independence, while the SNP said the House of Lords was an "undemocratic anachronism".
The 24 March 2016 has been proposed by the Scottish Government as the realistic date for the independence, after nearly 18 months for negotiation.
The Labour peer Baroness Jay of Paddington, who chairs the constitution committee has urged the UK government to "put the rest of the UK's interest first" in the event of independence negotiations and added: "The Scottish government's proposed timetable has no legal or constitutional standing."
