Lord Hanningfield Faces Suspension For Clocking-In Claim

Lord Hanningfield should be suspended from the Parliament for a clocking-in allowances claim after more than a year for "failing to act on his personal honour", according to a watchdog which found he had breached the code of conduct.

It discovered the former Tory peer claimed the daily £300 allowance for attending the Lords on 11 days in July 2013 without "undertaking any parliamentary work".

It said he should repay £3,300 and he could be barred from Parliament until May 2015, the maximum punishment that can be imposed on a member of the Lords which must be agreed by the whole House of Lords before take effect.
