'Skull Cracker' Michael Wheatley Spotted In London

Officers were called to an address in Twickenham on Monday, in relation to a sighting of escaped armed robber Michael Wheatley, known as the "Skull Cracker" for pistol-whipping his victims.

Police searched the area, however they did not find the 55-year-old criminal who is now the object of a major manhunt.

A full review of security has been ordered into HMP Standford Hill open prison on the Isle of Sheppey after the robber, who received 13 life sentences in 2002 for a string of brutal raids on banks and building societies, failed to return to the jail following a temporary release.

Police are advising the public not to approach Wheatley.
