Man's Death Being Treated As Murder

The death of a man in Greater Manchester is being treated as murder, police have confirmed.

The body of 28-year-old Craig Wilcox was found in Dove Stone Reservoir in February, seven weeks after he was last seen.

Mr Wilcox was of slim build, around 5ft 10in (1.8m) and was wearing a grey hooded top and blue combat trousers when he was last seen. He was reported missing on 6 January 2014 after he failed to return home following a visit to relatives in Failsworth.

His body was then discovered by an underwater search team in the reservoir on 24 February.

A post-mortem was carried out, but proved inconclusive. However, police have said that further inquiries revealed the victim had confided in a friend that he "feared for his safety".

His death was then considered to be suspicious.

Detective Chief Inspector Pete Marsh is quoted as saying it was "totally out of character for Craig to go missing", adding: "We are trying to piece together his movements from when he went missing in January to when his body was recovered."

Police have appealed for information and said they are "especially keen" to hear from anyone who saw a man matching Mr Wilcox's description at the reservoir from 6 January onwards.
