Chaos As Tube Strike Begins

There are chaotic scenes at tube stations across London today as workers hold a two-day strike.

Members of the Rail, Maritime and Transport (RMT) Union are staging the protest over plans to close all of London Underground's ticket offices, putting 960 jobs at risk.

Services are continuing to run on Tuesday and Wednesday, but there are long queues and Transport for London has said it hopes to run between 40% and 50% of its services.

The 48-hour strike commenced at 9pm on Monday and will end at 8.59pm on Wednesday (30 April), however disruption to commuters is expected to continue into Thursday.

Late on Monday, it was confirmed that the strike was going ahead after talks broke down between the union and London Underground (LU). If the situation is not resolved soon, an additional strike – this time for 72 hours – is due to be held next week.
