24,000 London Properties At Risk Of Floods
A new report has claimed that around 24,000 properties are at "significant risk" of river flooding.
The Environment Agency has said that current plans will only protect around 10,000 of these homes.
However, according to the 'Flood Risks in London' report , these properties are home to some 140,000 Londoners alone. The London Assembly Environment Committee added that the risks of flooding is also continuing to increase, with the effects of climate change being a potential factor.
In conclusion, the report said that London needs a sustainable drainage and river restoration programme to "create space for flood waters to be held higher in the river catchment and soak back into the ground".
