New Job Scheme To Target Disadvantaged Areas In Wales

Up to five thousand unemployed people in eight disadvantaged areas across Wales are to be given training and job opportunities as part of the 'Lift' scheme.

The pilot scheme will target people who have been out of work for six months of more, initially being launched in Mon Cluster, Anglesey; Carmarthenshire Cluster, Carmarthenshire; Swansea North West Cluster, Swansea; Afan Cluster, Neath Port Talbot; Taf Cluster, Rhondda Cynon Taf; Cardiff East Cluster, Cardiff; Caerphilly Basin Cluster, Caerphilly; Tredegar & Ebbw Fawr Clusters, Blaenau Gwent.

Lift is part of the Tackling Poverty Action Plan and will run until the end of 2017. It will have an initial budget of £500,000 for the first year and £1 million for 2014-15 and will also be supported by existing Welsh Government spending across departments.

A man from Portsmouth is due to appear in court today, 24 October, charged with the preparation of terrorism acts. Tuhin Shanesha, from South Sea, was charged under Section 5 of the Terrorism Act 2006. He is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court in London.

A third of Britons troubled by noisy neighbours: survey
Almost one-in-three people in Britain say noisy neighbours are a problem, according to new government research. Loud music, shouting and banging are more common causes of complaint than noisy parties, a study by Mori for the Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) found.
