Napo Announces Further Strike Action
At the National Association of Probaation Officer's (Napo's) Special General Meeting, held in Birmingham Town Hall, today General Secretary Ian Lawrence announced further strike action across 31st March and 1st April against plans to privatise 70% of the services work.
Making the announcement Ian told attendees: "The Coalition's plans to sell off the management of offenders to private providers so that they can make a profit from the justice system is a recklessly dangerous social experiment that presents massive risks to the safety of communities."

MPs Critical Of Ongoing UKBA Backlog
A backlog of unresolved immigration cases are still plaguing the UK Border Agency, according to MPs. The agency has supplied incorrect data for six years and former head Lin Homer "repeatedly misled" the Home Affairs Committee, the MPs said. Accusations Ms Homer, now the head of Revenue and Customs, said were unfair and untrue.

MP Hermon Quits UUP
The only Ulster Unionist MP at Westminster has quit the party over its electoral pact with the Tories. Sylvia Hermon today resigned from the UUP and declared she would defend her North Down seat as an Independent candidate at the forthcoming General Election.

The funeral of Northern Ireland's former First Minister Ian Paisley is to be held today. Ian Paisley was a founding member of the Democratic Unionist Party and help establish the Free Presbyterian Church in Northern Ireland following a split with the Presbyterian Church. He died on Friday aged 88.
