Piano Teacher Jailed For Abusing Pupils

Renowned concert pianist John Briggs has been found guilty of indecently assaulting music pupils.

The 65-year-old had denied the charges, which involved boys aged 10 to 15 and dated between 1969 and 1993.

The boys had been taking lessons with the concert pianist.

Briggs, of Little Lane, East Morton, West Yorkshire, was sentenced to eight years in jail.

Over 500 Pupils Evacuated In School Fire
More than 500 pupils were evacuated from a school in north west London when a fire broke out in the roof the building. 65 staff and 540 pupils evacuated the school on Goodson Road in Willesden when the fire alarm sounded on Tuesday afternoon. There were no reports of any injuries.

Ofsted Report Condemns Muslim Free School
Ofsted inspectors have condemned a Muslim free school, open for less than a year, as "dysfunctional" and inadequate in every category of its inspection. The regulator had been due to inspect the Al-Madinah school in Derby at the end of its first year, however following reports of concerns about teaching standards and treatment of pupils.
