Gtr Manchester Biomass Incinerator Backed By Judge

A judicial review of a controversial biomass incinerator proposed to be built in Greater Manchester, has ruled that it was proceed.

Trafford Council asked for a review of the proposed £70 million Davyhulme plant, a plan that had been approved by a government inspector in May.

A residents group, the Breathe Clean Air Group (BCAG), opposed the plans and have vowed to continue to fight Peel Energy's plans.

Union anger at health sector pay rises
Unions have reacted angrily to the government's announcement that pay for nurses and other healthcare professions has been pegged below inflation. Nurses and other health care professionals will get 2.5%, 1.5% in April and 1% in November. General dental practitioners will get 2% but there is nothing on offer for general medical practitioners.

George Awarded Damages Over 'Obsession'
The man cleared of murdering TV presenter Jill Dando after spending seven years in jail has won damages over newspaper claims. Barry George brought the case over claims that he was obsessed with singer Cheryl Cole and newsreader Kay Burley. The claims were made in the Sunday Mirror, the People and on the Daily Mirror website in 2008.
