Stereotyping Affecting Teenagers Chance Of Employment Claims Survey
False stereotyping of young people in the media and wider society is having a negative effect on both self-esteem and employment opportunities, a survey has revealed.
The survey, conducted by Demos and supported by the National Citizens Service (NCS) found that some 81% of 14-17-year-olds feel "unfairly represented" in the media, with 85% saying that the negative stereotyping affected their chances of getting a job.
Think tank Demos polled both 14 to 17-year-olds and their teachers as part of a study into the social and political attitudes of the next generation.
The poll found that up to 80% believe they were more concerned with social issues than previous generations of teenagers, a claim that 66% of teachers agreed with.
The survey's full findings have been published on the Demos.co.uk website.

The final findings from the HR Gateway/Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) Women and Leadership survey found that stereotyping was much more of a problem for women than even a lack of support for family commitments.

A pilot scheme of a new emergency text message alert system is underway in Glasgow. From 2pm this afternoon, O2 customers will receive three messages as a test of the system. It is understood that the texts will make clear that it is just a test and that they are part of a trial.
