Lid Dem Councillors Call For Resignations Over Job Cuts Increase

Opposition members of Wolverhampton City Council have called for the resignation of the council's chief executive Simon Warren and councillors Roger Lawrence and Andrew Johnson.

Liberal Democrat council members made the call following the announcement that the Labour-led council would need to cut up to 2,000 staff to meet budget savings of £123 million.

The council missed numerous opportunities to save money on various projects, such as the civic centre refurbishment, according to Lib Dem councillor Malcolm Gwinnett.

The council announced on Tuesday that its previous estimates of needing to save £93m had been increased to over £120m, with job cuts increasing from 1,400 to 2,000.

Calling for the resignations Mr Gwinnett said that losing so many staff was "absolutely ridiculous" and asked how the council would manage to run the authority.
