Two Cyclists Killed By A Car In Police Chase



Two cyclists have died after they were hit by a car involved in a police pursuit in Purley on Thames, West Berkshire.

Officers were responding to a “fear-for-welfare” incident at around 21:00 GMT on Thursday when they located a black BMW related to the call-out.

The car was on the A329 Purley Rise when it collided with the two cyclists who died at the scene.

One rider was named locally as 29-year-old-father-of-two John Moorland

The BMW driver was wounded, taken to the Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading and arrested later in connection with the incident which force has referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission, which practices when a death take place during a police related stuff.

A Thames Valley Police spokesman said specialist officers were in the process of informing and supporting the cyclists' next of kin.

The road between the junctions of Westbury Lane and Sherwood Rise was closed while officers examined the scene and re-opening this morning.
