CPS To Charge Man With 1993 Schoolgirl Murder

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) have said that they have sufficient evidence to charge a 45-year-old man with the 1993 murder of schoolgirl Claire Tiltman.

Miss Tiltman was found dead in an alleyway near her Greenhithe home in 1993 just days after her 16th birthday.. She had been stabbed more than 40 times.

The CPS have now said that Colin Ash-Smith will apear before Maidstone Magistrates' Court on 28 February charged with her murder.

Kent and Essex Police said that the case has been one of their longest-running and had "remained in the forefront" for over two decades.

MoD releases identity of British soldier killed in Basrah
One of the British soldiers killed in an ambush in southern Iraq yesterday has been named today by the MoD. Corporal Marc Taylor, 27, from Ellesmere Port in Cheshire, served with the Corps of Royal Electrical & Mechanical Engineers, and attached to 1st Regiment Royal Horse Artillery.

A 46-year-old man has been found guilty of the 1993 murder of teenager Claire Tiltman. Ms Tiltman was found dead in an alleyway in Greenhithe. She had suffered multiple stab wounds.

Bulger's Mother Receives Abuse On Twitter
Denise Fergus, the mother of toddler James Bulger, who was killed in 1993 has been subjected to abuse on Twitter about her son's murder. Users of the site reacted furiously over a chain of tweets that were sent from an account named Jon Venables, which uses the username @SirVenables. It has now been disabled.

'Significant Snow' Forecast For UK
According to weather forecasters, Britain is about to enter a cold snap bringing along one of the earliest significant snowfalls since 1993. The north and east of the UK are expected to be the worst hit as overnight tonight, between 6-8 inches of snow are expected in Scotland, and 1-2 inches in north-east England have been predicted.

Former Mr Gay UK Charged Over Cannibal Murder
A former 'Mr Gay UK' has been charged with murdering a man whose leg was reported to be chopped up and chunks of it eaten. Anthony Morley, 35, from Doncaster - who won the Mr Gay UK competition in 1993 aged 20 - appeared in court earlier this week charged with Mr Oldfield's murder.
